Maple Leaf Beanie Pattern
 

Materials: Cascade 220 wool, 100g each, one skein Black, one skein Red,

& one skein White.

- 4 mm double pointed needles, [set of four]

-Tapestry needle for finishing

Abbreviations: rnd = round; sts = stitches;

knit f&b = knit in front and back of next stitch

Gauge: 24 sts = 4 inches


With Black cast on 96 stitches.

Knit one row as a knit row, and divide stitches on three needles.

Rnds 2 – 6: * knit 2, purl 2, repeat from* to end of rnd.

Rnd 7: * Knit 3, knit f&b, repeat from * to end of rnd. [120 sts.]

Rnd 8: * Knit 2 sts white, knit 2 sts black, repeat from * to end of rnd.

Rnd 9: Knit sts in white in this rnd.

Rnd 10: * Knit 2 black, knit 2 white, * repeat from * to end of rnd.

Rnd 11: Repeat rnd 9.

Rnd 12: Repeat rnd 8.

Rnds 13 – 17: Knit in black. The stems of the leaves can be stitched on in duplicate stitch after

the hat is knit. The chart indicates where stem stitches are placed.


Work Chart: begin knitting at base of leaf , [ row 4 of chart ] not including stem.

Stems can be worked in duplicate stitch later.

 

White squares = black yarn

Black squares = red yarn

The rest of the hat is knit in black.

Knit 1 rnd.

Begin Decrease for crown.

1st rnd: * Knit 10, k2tog. Repeat from * from end of rnd.

2nd : Knit rnd.

3rd : * Knit 9, k2tog, repeat from * to end of rnd.

4th : Knit rnd.

5th : * Knit 8, k2tog, repeat from * to end of rnd.

6th : Knit rnd.

Continue decreasing in this way until 10 sts remain.

Break yarn leaving a tail long enough to thread through the last sts. Draw up, and finish off.

Add duplicate stitch stems, in red yarn.

Sew in other tails to finish.

Block: rinse in lukewarm water, Gently squeeze out excess water, roll in a towel, shape and air dry.
